BUSHES...
2010, competition
This competition was a lot of fun.
From the beginning I knew there was almost no chance to win any award with that kind of idea, but I though maybe some members of the jury would have a great sense of humor and this concept would provide them a good time.
The project consisted of redesigning the bathroom of the Polish Institute of Architects (SARP) which is located in a historical palace. And everybody knows...architects can't pick the best for themselves ;)
Just jocking. Actually I expected the members of the jury to choose a classical typical project for a palace, which mine wasn't at all. This is what they finally did.
So now a few words about my project. As I said I wanted it to be a fun place, the bathroom. My intention was to provide a surprise. So you walk along the beautifully decorated walls of the main corridors, then you go downstairs, the walls are getting dark, I wanted them black. And then...you are outside, in the garden surrounding the palace and you just go to the bushes instead of using the elegant restrooms!
I used simple prints of straws, grass, and trees and covered the walls with them, so when you enter the restroom you feel like being in bushes.
Also I adapted the restroom to handicapped people, which no other project did. What a shame 1/ nobody else thought about it, 2/ the members of the jury didn't request it, as designers!
Well, I hope to see a smile on your face when you have a look at some concept images :)
